BIOGRAPHY
Since graduating from Chelsea School of Art , and then The
Royal College
of Art in 1981 I have worked as a freelance illustrator
and printmaker. My
clients include a wide variety of magazines, newspapers,
publishers and
advertising / design groups. I also carry out commissions
for private individuals as
well as exhibiting my work widely.
I always use the relief print as my method of working- using
either
vinyl, lino or wood as the engraving /cutting material.
The technique I have
developed over the years, combines printing with collage
and paint.
One of my most satisfying recent commissions was a monthly
illustration
in the magazine Gardens Illustrated (BBC) You might also
have seen my work on
the covers of the highly popular series of books by Alexander
McCall Smith .
'The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency' is the first in the series
of six and the
cover won 'Book Cover of the Year' at the British Book Awards
2004. I am now
working on several other titles for the same author, and
am about to start work
on a book about gardening for an American publisher.
I have taught at various colleges and schools and have enjoyed
working as
a demonstrator at Art in Action, at Waterperry. I occasionally
run workshops
for small groups of adults or children and have recently
had a major exhibition
at The Museum of Garden History, London. I will be exhibiting
at several
shows over the next few months and a large solo show in
November at the Chelsea
and Westminster Hospital, in support of the Nightingale
Project.
