JULIE LACOME

 

BIOGRAPHY

Julie Lacome was born in 1961 into an artistic family in Fife, Scotland. She was educated at Edinburgh College of Art (1978 - 82) and at Central St. Martin's (1983). She has worked as a freelance illustrator for over 20 years including commissions for advertising agencies, t.v. companies, greeting cards and design companies. The bulk of her work, however, has been for children's book publishers. To date Julie has published over 30 books including the hugely popular Walking Through the Jungle. Her awards include the 2001 Scottish Arts Council Children's Book Award for Ruthie's Big Old Coat, the 1996 Young Book Trust 100 Best Books list and in 1993 the Parenting Magazine (U.S.A) Reading Magic Award. Her work has also been included in numerous exhibitions.

She has worked for the past few years a part-time tutor in illustration at Edinburgh College of Art, where she currently lives. She is at present completing work on Buck's Truck, written by Vivian French and to be published by Walker Books Ltd shortly.
